Delivering Real-World Process Training in the Classroom
Project Overview
DarbyTech partnered with Baldwin Preparatory Academy and Coastal Alabama Community College to deliver a fully immersive, industry-aligned training environment within the academy’s mechatronics workshop in Alabama. At the centre of the installation is DarbyTech’s Hands-on Process Operations Skills Trainer, designed to replicate real-world industrial systems and give students practical exposure to process operations, automation, and control.
Supported by additional trainers and IoT-enabled technologies, the project creates a comprehensive learning platform that bridges the gap between classroom theory and modern industrial practice.

The Challenge
Baldwin Preparatory Academy set out to build a future-focused mechatronics programme that could genuinely prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing and industrial technology. The challenge was not just to teach theory, but to replicate the complexity of real industrial environments in a safe, accessible setting. This required equipment that could demonstrate process operations, automation, and control systems at an industrial level, while remaining intuitive for learners. In addition, the solution needed to reflect modern industry trends, including the growing importance of data, connectivity, and smart technologies—ensuring students were exposed to the same tools and thinking used in today’s workplaces. |

The Outcome
DarbyTech delivered a comprehensive, industry-aligned training ecosystem centred around its Hands-on Process Operations Skills Trainer, transforming the workshop into a live, interactive learning environment. Students can operate, monitor, and troubleshoot realistic process systems, gaining direct experience with automation and control principles used across industry. This was further enhanced through the integration of IoT wireless sensor kits, enabling real-time data monitoring and analysis, and introducing students to the role of digitalisation in modern operations. By combining physical equipment with smart technology, DarbyTech created a scalable and engaging platform that equips learners with both the practical skills and digital awareness required to succeed in industrial careers. |
