Heat Exchanger Trainer:
The transfer of heat energy between fluids is a very common industrial operation. DarbyTech’s Heat Exchanger Trainer apparatus consists of six heat exchangers with associated fluid temperature indicators and flow indicating controllers. The exchangers are of equal surface area with each one having unique features.

Our Trainer:
The DarbyTech Heat Exchanger Trainer is equipped with industry-typical process measurement and control devices, providing a realistic training environment in which the students are exposed to many available technologies.

Learning Outcomes Include:

• Learn the impact of: construction material, flow pattern or direction, turbulent or laminar flow, and exchanger design.
• Calculate the sensible heat loss by the process water and gain by the cooling water for each heat exchanger.
• Understand the effect of parallel and counter current flow patterns, interpret results for the arrangement that gives a greater heat transfer.
• Understand the effect of tube metallurgy on heat transfer. Interpret and compare results to determine whether copper or steel gives the greater heat transfer.
• Understand the effect of flow rate and the number of passes on the tube side of the exchanger on heat exchanged.

Closed Loop with:

• Heat pump to create both process (hot) water and chilled water
• Integral heat pump temperature controller
• Circulation pump for each water stream
